A Call for Creativity
A few weeks ago, we received an email from a company called Netrality (a network-neutral carrier hotel providing data solutions and housing servers). After experiencing a round of dull pictures from a previous photographer, an unhappy Netrality called us for help. “We need more creative shots, more uniqueness” they pleaded, a common phrase we hear among new clients seeking our assistance. Now, a server house isn’t all that glamorous as you can imagine, which can make it difficult to achieve a unique photo. However, we made it work using a few simplicities that the previous photographer had overlooked: composition and standalone lighting.
Since we were dealing with a “less-than stimulating environment,” so-to-speak, the individuality and interest of the photos relied heavily on composing our frame and lighting our space. Simply incorporating a color relationship will make a world of difference in any photo. In this case, incorporating the purple light on the right supports the naturally blue-lit subject on the left. This creates an analogous color relationship resulting in a serene, comfortable atmosphere. With our main subject composed in the foreground providing diminishing perspective, our eyes are then drawn to the second and equally important subject, the Netrality Logo.
